Folk singer and songwriter Susan Werner will take the Lied stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday to perform a selection from her latest album, Hayseed.

Werner’s album, commissioned by the Lied Center for Performing Arts and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is an homage to farms, farmers and the people who love them.

“There’s a changing of the guard taking place in American agriculture,” Werner said. “Farmers like my father and mother are retiring, and new farmers are starting out. I wanted to honor my parents and their way of life, and I want to be part of the conversation about what happens next.”

Werner’s concert is the first preseason performance of the Lied’s 2013-2014 season. Tickets are free and required. For tickets, call 402-472-4747 or visit the Lied Center Box Office at 12th and R streets.
