State of the University address is Sept. 22

Chancellor Ronnie Green

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green will deliver his inaugural State of the University address to faculty, staff, students and the community at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, 301 N. 12th St.

The speech traditionally outlines university priorities for the coming year while addressing major accomplishments during the previous academic year.

Green, who had served UNL as vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources since 2010, was named the university’s 20th chancellor on April 6. Since succeeding Harvey Perlman as chancellor, Green has invoked the university’s responsibility to lead in addressing key global challenges, to attract and serve more students, and to meet the state’s workforce and economic needs. A question-and-answer session will follow his address.

UNL will continue the tradition of honoring employee service at the State of the University address. Employees reaching 40-, 45- and 50-year milestones this year will join the chancellor on the Lied Center stage to be honored. In lieu of the traditional pre-ceremony honoring the hundreds of service-award winners, the university this year will join with colleges, departments and units in recognizing their honorees at various events during the fall semester.

Following the chancellor’s address, staff and faculty are invited to an ice-cream social outside the Lied Center.
