Poster sessions that highlight student accomplishments as well as professional development events for UNL faculty are in the lineup for the spring UNL Research Fair, April 12-13.

The research fair is open to the public, but registration is required for some events. A complete schedule is available online. Events are in the Nebraska Union unless otherwise noted.

“Technology Transfer Workshop: Explaining Commercialization of Research” is 1 to 2 p.m. April 12. Participants will learn the basics of technology transfer and patents from guest speakers Sean Solberg, a patent attorney with Davis Brown Law Firm, and Laura Schoppe, founder and president of Fuentek. NUtech Ventures, the event sponsor, is offering prize drawings for an Apple watch and a $100 iTunes gift certificate. Participants must attend the entire workshop to be eligible. Registration is encouraged but not required.

On April 13, keynote speaker E. William Colglazier presents the Sigma Xi research luncheon, “The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation for Diplomacy and Sustainable Development,” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Wick Alumni Center. Colglazier is a visiting scientist from the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Center for Science Diplomacy. Registration is required.

UNL faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the poster sessions, which offer opportunities for students to communicate about their work and build interdisciplinary connections. This year’s graduate student event includes a poster competition. The sessions are April 12 for graduate students and April 13 for undergraduates. Both poster sessions are 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room and Ballroom. The Office of Graduate Studies sponsors these events.

A roundtable discussion for doctoral students who are interested in pursuing industry careers is April 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Nebraska Union, Regency Suite. Andrew Cockerill, formerly of BP and now an executive coach and facilitator, presents “Insights and Best Practices from the University-Industry Demonstration Partnership.” Registration is required.

The spring Research Fair offers other opportunities for graduate students.

The Office of Graduate Studies sponsors the Graduate Professional Development Networking Workshops on April 12 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Two graduate student workshops focus on the Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Consortium. “Graduate Student Research Opportunities at the Central Plains Research Data Center,” is at 2 p.m. Register here.
