The UNL Small Jazz Ensembles performance will take place Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall. The ensembles include students at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The event is free and open to the public.
This concert in the Glenn Korff School of Music features four ensembles coached by doctorate jazz studies majors Russell Zimmer, Aaron Stroessner, Max Stehr and Jesse McBee. In addition, one advanced ensemble, coached by faculty member Darryl White, will take the stage.
Each group will perform up to three selections, largely drawn from the standard jazz repertoire. While the various instructors bring in some song arrangements, student ensemble members also contribute to the concert program. Instrumentation varies from group to group; this particular concert includes the traditional piano, bass and drums, but also the less typical clarinet, violin, vibraphone and voice.
