Sheldon hosts MLK Week film screening

UNL’s observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Week continues with a 5 p.m. Jan. 21 screening of “Eyes on the Prize: Bridge to Freedom” at the Sheldon Museum of Art. The free event includes a discussion after the screening.

“Eyes on the Prize: Bridge to Freedom” is part of a 1987 PBS documentary about the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. “Bridge to Freedom” examines the struggle to obtain equal voting rights in Alabama in 1965. The film explores Martin Luther King Jr.’s work in organizing peaceful protests in Selma, Ala., and the march to Montgomery that spearheaded federal passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Patrick Jones, associate professor of history, will lead the post-screening discussion on the struggle to obtain voting rights after the screening.
