SciPop Talks!: Alien Biochemistry in the Movies

Extraterrestrials loom large in the public’s imagination. So it’s no wonder that hundreds of motion pictures feature aliens. In a March 12 talk, UNL associate professor of chemistry Mark Griep will explain what some of the top movies featuring aliens have to say about alien biochemistry.

Griep will lead the discussion at 7 p.m. in Love Library’s Mezzanine Study Room, 201 Love Library South. Griep is the co-author of “ReAction: Chemistry in the Movies,” a scientist’s response to the dark and bright sides of chemistry found in Hollywood films.

The discussion is free and open to the public.

“SciPop Talks! Where Science Intersects Pop Culture” is sponsored by UNL Libraries, the Department of Chemistry and Doane College. Future talks include:

March 19 – Making ‘Inception’ Real - Ramesh Laungani, Doane

April 2 – Discovering the Hidden Truth: Forensics - Ashley Hall, UNL

April 9 – Book 8: Harry Potter and the Magic of Science - Rebecca Y Lai, UNL

April 16 – Game Theory and Breaking Bad - Kristopher Williams, Doane

April 23 – Interview with the Vampire - Decoded by Scientists - Rebecca Y Lai, UNL
