The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Research Council is soliciting nominations for faculty to present a Nebraska Lecture in fall 2016 and spring 2017. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. March 7.

The Nebraska Lectures: Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series features high-profile presentations by distinguished UNL faculty. Lectures are designed for general audiences to provide insights about some of the university’s leading research, scholarship and creative activities.

Faculty and staff are invited to identify and nominate candidates. Selection criteria are: major recent accomplishment(s) that support a distinguished record and the ability to communicate to an interdisciplinary audience. Nominees should be nationally or internationally prominent in their fields.

Recent lecturers and their topics were Shane Farritor, Professor of Engineering, “Making for Innovation”; Daniel Claes, professor and chair, physics and astronomy, “What the Heck is a Higgs boson”; Dennis Molfese, Mildred Francis Thompson Professor of Psychology, “The New Normal: A Brain After Concussion”; and Stephen Behrendt, George Holmes University Professor of English, “What Good Are the Humanities, Anyway?”

To nominate a faculty member, email a nomination letter and the nominee’s curriculum vitae, including significant scholarly accomplishments with emphasis on the last five years, to Mari Greer at mgreer1@unl.edu.

Nominations are kept confidential. The Research Council and the vice chancellor for research and economic development will select the lecturers. Chosen lecturers will be notified immediately after selection.
