Registration open for Collegiate Women In Business conference

UNL’s College of Business Administration Undergraduate Women in Business student organization is hosting the inaugural Collegiate Women in Business conference on Feb. 27. The conference will be held on the Nebraska Innovation Campus from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with theme connections, a keynote address and three breakout sessions. The conference is open to women who are UNL students, young professionals and members of the business community.

“In their personal lives, most women know the value of developing a supportive group of friends, but many overlook the importance of a support system in their professional lives,” said Donna Dudney, director of the CBA Honors Academy, associate professor of finance and adviser for Undergraduate Women in Business. “The old saying ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ is often true, so fostering a wide network of connections can help women find the best jobs and then succeed at those jobs.”

Diane Mendenhall, associate athletic director for development and ticket operations at the University of Nebraska Athletic Department, will give the keynote address about nurturing and maintaining connections as a resource and support system. The breakout sessions will include ways to help young women thrive in the workplace. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart, endowed dean of the business administration college, will lead one of the breakout sessions on negotiation based on her nationally ranked research.

“One of the most supportive connections for most women is the connection between mothers and daughters. Please encourage your daughter to attend the conference and consider attending with her,” Dudney said.

The Undergraduate Women in Business organization is open to all undergraduate students at UNL and strives to elevate student potential, service and life. The club actively partners with women’s groups on campus and in the community, many of whom will be participating in the conference. Cost for the conference is $35 and includes lunch.
