Registration open for 'Biofuels and Bioproducts' symposium

The UNL “Biofuels and Bioproducts” symposium from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sept. 18 features presentations and poster sessions with UNL scientists’ work in this growing field as it relates to energy science.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to register for the daylong event at http://ncesr.unl.edu/event.php?eventID=1697.

Building collaborations among UNL biofuels and bioproducts researchers that could lead to future research funding is the aim of the symposium, hosted by the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research.

Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 7:15 a.m. in the Regency Suite. Speakers include Friedrich Srienc, program officer, National Science Foundation Division of Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental and Transport Systems; Prem S. Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development; and Paul Blum, associate director of the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research and professor of biological sciences.

Throughout the day, UNL faculty from across disciplines will present their energy sciences research. Topics include cellulosome and synthetic biopathway engineering, algal biotechnology, biofuel leftovers, camelina as an oilseed platform, valorization of bioproducts, co-synthesis of bioenergy proteins, microbial metabolic engineering, algal lipid production for fuel, mechanics of plant cell walls, industrial applications of soyproteins, value-added products from biorenewable reductants, viruses and algae, and green algae metabolism from a biofuels perspective.

Researchers will present posters at 9:30 a.m. in the Heritage Room. Additional time to view posters will be available during the 2 p.m. break.
