Three Lincoln nonprofit organizations have been awarded grants from the Learning by Giving Foundation as part of Project Impact Lincoln conducted by students in the College of Business Administration.
The recipients of the grants are Lincoln-Lancaster Child Advocacy Center, Mourning Hope and Voices of Hope. They were chosen by a senior-level and graduate class, Leading People and Projects (Management 411/811).
The class accepted 43 proposals from local nonprofit organizations and conducted in-depth reviews and discussions throughout the semester before ultimately deciding on the winners. The students will distribute $10,000 in grants at a 5:30 p.m. awards ceremony Dec. 3 at the University of Nebraska Foundation, 1010 Lincoln Mall, third floor.
Through the class, students learned how to initiate a funding process, create requests for proposals, evaluate applications and make decisions on providing grants for community betterment.
The Learning by Giving Foundation partners with more than 35 schools to teach philanthropy classes. The foundation’s slogan is “learn philanthropy, invest in humanity.” It is funded by a $5 million gift from board member Howard W. Buffett.
