The College of Engineering’s annual E-Day Open House will take place April 17, at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center, 2021 Transformation Drive.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will showcase the work of current students who are “Engineering New Horizons” and show prospective students the many possibilities within the college. It is free and open to the public.
The open house is an opportunity to spotlight the design work of senior engineering students and various student organizations, including:
A new packaging design to increase the grocery store shelf life of ConAgra’s Lofthouse Sugar Cookies.
A new chair base and tray to give a young cerebral palsy patient needed mobility as she grows.
Improved personal protective equipment protocols and designs for health care workers who treat patients with Ebola.
Solar-powered water purifiers that can be shipped with greater cost-effectiveness to developing nations.
Analysis by teams of civil engineers of the causes of flooding at the intersections of 16th and X and 16th and Y streets and possible solutions to the problem.
A system of electronic monitoring bracelets and software to make for a safer and more efficient child collection and pickup process in a daycare environment.
Numerous designs of Net-Zero, energy self-sustaining homes for Habitat for Humanity-Omaha.
Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, author of “The Physics of NASCAR” will be the keynote speaker. Leslie-Pelecky is a former nanomaterials researcher and educator at UNL who is known nationally for her work in science education and outreach and for her research into magnetic materials and the application of nanomaterials to medical diagnosis and treatment processes.
The open house will also include hands-on activities, information sessions aimed at students in grades 9-11 and a bridge-building competition for high school students. Parking is available at the Nebraska Innovation Conference Center.
