Network upgrade to disrupt campus services on Aug. 3

The third phase of the upgrade to the campus network will result in an outage to many City Campus buildings from 8 a.m. to noon, Aug. 3.

During the outage, Information Technology Services will install an additional distribution router that will increase bandwidth and redundancy to campus buildings. This is the third in a series of network distribution upgrades initiated on May 11. By the end of the summer, bandwidth to all City Campus locations will double to two gigabits. Additional project phases will continue on both City and East campuses through next year.

By the end of 2015, UNL will increase its Internet capacity through commodity vendors and connections to consortiums Internet2 and OmniPop.

Buildings affected by the Aug. 3 work are listed below. Services that will continue to function include energy management, CCTV, alarms and door access.

  • 14th and Avery Parking Garage
  • 1520 N. 20th Circle (Online and Distance Education)
  • 17th and R Parking Garage (UNL Police)
  • 1740 Vine (American Math Competitions)
  • 19th and Vine Parking Garage
  • Architecture Studio — Haymarket
  • Beadle Center
  • Benton Hall
  • Business Services Complex
  • Center on Children, Families, and the Law
  • Coliseum
  • Devaney Sports Center/Hendricks
  • Facilities Management and Planning
  • Facilities Management Shops
  • Fairfield Hall
  • Henzlik Hall
  • Jorgensen Hall
  • Landscape Services
  • LTAP
  • Mabel Lee Hall

The following campus locations will be partially impacted:

Residence Halls

  • Resnet network connections will not be affected.
  • City campus residence halls – All non-resnet network connections will be affected
  • East campus residence halls – Housing Admin network will be affected
  • Housing Datacenters in Schramm and Selleck will be affected.

Memorial Stadium

  • All wireless networking for West, East, North Stadium and Hawks Championship Center will be affected.

Virtual Private Network

  • The primary UNL VPN concentrator will be affected; however no VPN outage is expected as services will failover to the secondary concentrator.

SEC 29 Datacenter

  • The work below affecting the SEC Datacenter is anticipated to be limited to 8 to 8:30 a.m.

  • Impacted IP ranges for servers have been previously communicated to Data Center occupants.
