Mussorgsky's 'Boris Godunov' continues Met HD Live season

Experience the thrill of the Metropolitan Opera in HD showcased on the big screen at the Mary Riepma Ross Film Theater. The Met in HD continues its season with a new production of “Boris Godunov.” The live performance is at 11 a.m., Oct. 23. An encore performance will take place at 1 p.m., Oct. 24.

RenÃ�© Pape takes on one of the greatest bass roles in a production by renowned theater and opera director Peter Stein, in his Met debut. Valery Gergiev conducts Mussorgsky�s epic spectacle that captures the suffering and ambition of a nation.

�Boris Godunov is a masterpiece,� Stein says. �The challenge is to transmit the enormous emotional depth of the whole thing. Boris is the czar, but he is expressing a problem we all have: the consequences of human actions.�

Aleksandrs Antonenko, Vladimir Ognovenko and Ekaterina Semenchuk lead the huge cast. Expected running time is five hours.
