The Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education will host the Nebraska Summit on Math and Science Education Dec. 8 on the Nebraska Innovation Campus.

The daylong event will assemble leading educators and administrators to address the delivery of effective math and science instruction to Nebraska students from preschool through high school.

Featured speakers will include: Matt Blomstedt, Nebraska’s commissioner of education; Diane Briars, president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; Jerry Valadez, director of the Central Valley Science Project; and Jim Spillane, professor of learning and organizational change at Northwestern University.

The summit will also feature more than a dozen presentations and related discussions on issues ranging from professional development, state math standards, and technology-focused programs to “authentic” science learning, informal science experiences and teaching in rural communities.

Support for the summit comes via the NebraskaMATH grant awarded to the Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education by the National Science Foundation.
