'Little House' author right on 1880s winters

This stereoscopic of downtown Woodstock, Ill., shows the town square following the March 19, 1881 blizzard. The winter of 1881 was one of the worst on record in the 1800s, and was the subject of Laura Ingalls Wilder's “The Long Winter.”
