Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler announced Feb. 3 that 2015 is “The Year of the Lied,” honoring the Lied Center for Performing Arts’ 25th anniversary.

The announcement took place during opening remarks prior to a performance by themodern dance company “Diavolo.” The mayor recognized the Lied Center for making significant contributions to the artistic culture of the Lincoln community by providing arts education programs to more than 500,000 Nebraska students and a venue for world-class performances and events for millions of Nebraskans.

“Our city and state owe a debt of gratitude to the visionaries who created the Lied Center 25 years ago,” Beutler said. “It’s now hard to imagine our community without this cultural treasure that has entertained, educated and inspired people of all ages.”

The Lied Center for Performing Arts opened in 1990 and is known as one of the top 100 performing arts centers in the entire world. Located in the heart of downtown Lincoln and just steps away from Memorial Stadium and the historic Haymarket, the Lied Center attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.
