Lied Center offers $1,000 prize in poster design competition

In conjunction with its 25th anniversary season, the Lied Center for Performing Arts is calling for entries for its first poster design competition. Artists of all ages are invited to submit work depicting, commemorating, or representing the Lied Center building, performing art forms, role in statewide Nebraska communities or the Lied’s mission “to educate, inspire and entertain the people of Nebraska through the performing arts.”

“We are thrilled to announce the Lied Center’s first-ever poster design competition,” said Bill Stephan, executive director of the Lied Center. “A major goal of the Lied Center’s 25th anniversary season is to showcase all of the fantastic talent we have right here in Nebraska. This is just one of many special events designed around this objective and we look forward to revealing more to our patrons and supporters throughout the 2014-2015 season.”

The winning poster will become part of the official artwork of the Lied Center’s 25th anniversary season. It will be hung prominently in the Lied Center and earn the winning artist a $1,000 cash prize.

All submissions must be received by the Lied Center by March 10. The Lied Center welcomes all types of media, including (but not limited to) watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, and/or mixed media including manipulated photography and graphic design. Three finalists will be selected by a panel of judges and displayed in the Lied Center during April, when they will be voted upon by Lied Center patrons. Votes will be collected from Lied Center patrons, visitors and an internal panel of judges and tallied to determine an overall winner. The winner will be announced at the end of April.

To enter, go to http://www.liedcenter.org/poster, and download and complete the entry form. Email the completed entry form and a digital poster image to Carrie Christensen via email. The website includes additional information on the entry process, specifications, eligibility, terms and conditions.

Contest Terms and Conditions

By entering you are verifying the submitted work is yours, that you have the rights to the images and that you are an adult. If you are not an adult (at least 19 years old, as defined by the Nebraska Legislature) you will need to have a parent or guardian sign the entry form.

By participating in this competition, you are granting the Lied Center for Performing Arts the right to use entered work on the Lied Center website, printed materials and for future promotions. The winning entry becomes the property of the Lied Center for Performing Arts and may not be returned. The Lied Center reserves the right to alter the work with text and/or logos.

Eligibility

The contest is open to all interested parties, particularly professional artists, graphic designers and art students from or with a personal connection to the state of Nebraska. Entrants who are under the age of 19 must supply the signature of a parent or other guardian on the entry form.

Participants and the contest winner must be U.S. residents. Employees of the Lied Center and members of the immediate family of any such persons are not eligible to participate or win.

Finalists

Finalists are responsible for shipping or delivering display-ready (matted with white matboard, art on canvas is an exception) original artwork to the Lied Center for display in the finalist exhibition.

The Lied Center for Performing Arts accepts no responsibility for the three pieces in the finalist show. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide his or her own insurance if the artist feels it is required.
