Journalism college wins six Nebraska ADDY awards

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications received six awards at the Nebraska American Advertising ADDY Awards Feb. 20 in Omaha.

UNL won Student Best of Show, two Gold ADDYs and three Silver ADDYs. The work represented in-class projects and collateral from the college's National Student Advertising Competition.

"We are so proud of what our students and faculty have accomplished," Associate Dean and advertising and public relations sequence head Frauke Hachtmann said. "We strongly emphasize real-life learning experiences in the advertising and public relations curriculum from day one, culminating in fully integrated campaigns experiences inside and outside the classroom."

The 2015 UNL NSAC team won Student Best of Show and a Gold ADDY for its video "Old Fashioned Meat Brawl" for client Pizza Hut. The commercial was part of the team's "Flavor of Now" campaign, which also won a Gold ADDY.

The team also won a Silver ADDY in the print campaign category for the "Flavor of Now" campaign. Faculty advisers Michael Goff, advertising and public relations professor of practice, and Rich Bailey, adjunct professor, led the team.

NSAC team members are: Melissa Bakewell, of Omaha; Cody Broder, of Lincoln; Chris Dorwart, of Omaha; Jolene Dreier, of Elkhorn; Cody Elmore, of Little Rock, Arkansas; David Forrest-Anderson, of Ketchikan, Alaska; Brendon Henning, of Lincoln; Andrew Keohane, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Sarah Jo Lambert, of Lubbock, Texas; Anna McTygue of Kansas City, Missouri; Alex Marie Meyer, of Overland Park, Kansas; Rhett Muller, of Omaha; Kathryn Pauley, of Lincoln; Jeff Rau, of Avon Lake, Ohio; Shelby Rohlff, of Lincoln; Nick Small, of Lincoln; Will Stott, of Omaha; Neely Sutter, of Beatrice; Casey Venema, of Fremont; Nora Williams, of Papillion; and Xinchi (April) Zhang, of Waltham, Massachusetts.

The additional Silver ADDYs were awarded to students in the Design and Layout class taught by Adam Wagler, assistant professor of advertising and public relations. Brooke Lehman is a junior art and advertising and public relations major from Lincoln. Hannah Paxton is a senior marketing and advertising and public relations major from Wakefield.
