The 23rd season of the Sheldon Art Association’s Jazz in June concert series resumes today with the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble.
The concerts are at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June in the sculpture garden west of UNL’s Sheldon Museum of Art. Although the Jazz in June concert series is free, those in attendance are encouraged to make a donation of $10 per family to help ensure its continuation.
The event also includes a walking tour of the Love and Van Brunt Visitors Center gardens and a market featuring 25 vendors with food, drinks and artisan-made crafts.
The Jazz in June Market, located at 12th and R streets, opens at 5 p.m. The walking tour, led by Laurence Ballard, nursery supervisor for UNL’s Landscape Services, begins at 6 p.m. at the Sheldon’s east entrance.
CALJE is a new and innovative force on the Latin Jazz scene. It crafts a global sound by fusing modern jazz harmonies with traditional rhythms, including Argentinian tango, Dominican merengue, Jamaican reggae, Puerto Rican bomba y plena, Spanish flamenco, and Cuban son, guaguanco and clave negra.
