The College of Engineering gathered thought leaders from a number of realms to discuss “Building the 22nd Century.” The international conference, held Oct. 14-16 at Omaha’s CenturyLink Center and at UNL’s Lied Center for Performing Arts, also featured panels of architects, college deans and futurists, who addressed the challenges ahead.

Coverage included the Omaha World-Herald’s Matthew Hansen on Ray Kurzweil, inventor and director of engineering with Google, who offered a number of predictions about the future of technology, information and society at the conference.

The World-Herald and the Daily Nebraskan also covered a presentation in Lincoln by Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the former U.S. Forces commander in Afghanistan, who focused on how the success of any group will require teamwork and communication, regardless of technological advances.
