‘In a World …’ and ‘Short Term 12’ play the Ross

Lake Bell stars in the film "In a World...," opening Oct. 25 at the Ross.

The comedy “In a World …”, starring Lake Bell, and the critically acclaimed drama “Short Term 12” open Oct. 25 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. “Enough Said” is held over for an extra week.

“Enough Said” is rated PG-13. “Short Term 12” and “In a World …” are rated R. All three films play through Oct. 31.

Lake Bell stars in “In a World …,” a romantic comedy about a struggling vocal coach who strikes it big in the cutthroat world of movie-trailer voiceovers. However, she ends up in direct competition with her father, the industry’s reigning king.

“In a World…” was written and directed by Bell. The script won the Sundance 2013 Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

The film also features Fred Melamed, Rob Corddry, Demitri Martin, Michaela Watkins, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Alexandra Holden and Tig Notaro.

In “I Am Not a Hipster,” director Destin Daniel Cretton expands his 2008 short “Short Term 12” into a feature film. The production depicts the struggles of a compassionate 20-something contending with some unexpected life developments while working as a supervisor at a home for at-risk teens.

Grace (Brie Larson) has dedicated her life to helping kids who have slipped through the cracks of the system. Committed to her job and in love with kindhearted co-worker Mason (John Gallagher Jr.), she’s still struggling to make sense of her own troubled past when she learns that her life is about to change forever. Meanwhile, into the facility walks a young girl who’s shifted between group homes due to dangerous behavior.

Almost immediately, Grace forges a powerful connection with her new charge. And, if Grace can just open up to Mason the way she encourages her kids to open up to her, she may find a way to make peace with the future while still providing support to the kids who depend on her the most.

In “Enough Said,” Louis-Drefus plays Eva, a masseuse dreading her daughter’s impending departure for college. She meets Albert (Gandolfini), a funny and like-minded man also facing an empty nest.

As the romance blooms, Eva befriends Marianne (Catherine Keener), a new massage client. As Marianne talks bad about her former husband, Eva finds herself doubting her new relationship with Albert.
