UNL professor Rose Holz and Northwestern University lecturer Sarah Rodriguez will present their research on Robert L. Dickinson, a sexologist. The lecture will be at noon Nov. 7 in the Nebraska Union.

Using images and sculptures from two of his most influential projects, The Human Sex Atlas and The Birth Atlas, Holz and Rodriguez will examine the work and legacy of this complex and controversial man who influenced the lives of women for generations.

Dickinson was also a gynecologist, birth control pioneer, artist and illustrator. Although largely unknown today, Dickinson served as inspiration for such prominent sexologists as Alfred Kinsey, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. Dickinson also helped lay the foundations for modern gynecology and sex research.

Holz is an associate professor of practice in women’s and gender studies. Rodriquez is a lecturer in Northwestern’s medical humanities and bioethics program. Her field is women’s reproductive and sexual health from 1900 to present.
