Hale to host ‘Are You Lucky’ book discussion

Author Brian Hale will host a book discussion on his newest book, “Are You Lucky” at the lucky time of 7:11 p.m. on March 17 at the University Bookstore.

Searching for luck is something people begin doing at an early age, but does luck even exist? Is it a physical force? Is it a mystical phenomenon? Most importantly, what might people do as individuals to cause luck to treat them differently?

Astrologists, palm readers and crystal ball-gazers all try to predict luck. Some pray to a higher power to bring good fortune. Others believe any luck received is due to persistence in the presence of an opportunity or is simple happenstance.

Luck is difficult to identify before it arrives. After luck passes, its residue remains for each person to sort out.

Hale’s book explores how people attempt to win luck’s favor, as well as how people try to make the best of a situation. The book will describe the many forms in which luck can appear and how it inspires, impacts and even changes people.

Luck came to Hale’s life fairly early. During his senior year in high school, his face came into contact with a whirring chainsaw. That event set the stage for a lifetime of people telling him, “You are so lucky.”

Hale is now a journalist and school public relations specialist.

After the discussion, there will be a book signing to follow. The bookstore is located on the lower level of the Nebraska Union and is open to the entire Lincoln community.
