UNL’s eighth edition of Get Rec’d — the annual college lifestyle festival organized by Campus Recreation — is Jan. 23-24. The event will include 45 vendors offering free food, prizes and giveaways.

Held at the Campus Rec Center on City Campus, Get Rec’d is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

Participants can try out the latest products and technology, experience the sights and sounds from local and national companies, donate blood to support the Red Cross. Those attending can also enter to win more than $10,000 in prizes.

Get Rec’d attracts more than 10,000 UNL students, faculty, staff and supporters.

The event includes the Ultimate Road Trip Challenge, pitting 10 teams of two in competition to win an all-expenses-paid Spring Break California Surfing Adventure. The competition is Jan. 24 and will include nine rounds of games.

Winners receive a 10-day trip provided by UNL Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures and $500 spending cash courtesy of the University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union.

The registration deadline is Jan. 21. Individuals under age 19 must have a parent/guardian signature to attend the trip. Register at http://www.getrecd.com/contests.php.

Ultimate Road Trip Challenge sponsors include Celerion, Nebraska Army National Guard, Raising Cane’s, U.S. Cellular and Sun Valley Lanes.

Other Get Rec’d contests include the Husker Fan Challenge, the Great College Chop Off (based on the television show Chopped!), and Can You Go the Distance. Most contests include prizes for the top three finishers. Prizes include an iPad, a Husker Tunnel Walk Experience, memorabilia and gift certificates.

This year, Get Rec’d is encouraging an active lifestyle and offering a free #ActiveHusker T-shirt. Participants can receive a free charcoal gray #ActiveHusker shirt by participating in various activities at booths throughout the event.
