The Ralph Steadman documentary, “For No Good Reason,” and the bloody revenge thriller, “Blue Ruin,” open June 20 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Both films are rated R and play through June 26.
Made over the course of fifteen years, “For No Good Reason” explores the connection between life and art through the eyes of the seminal British artist Ralph Steadman. This film is a study in honesty, friendship and the ambition that drives an artist.
“For No Good Reason,” also starring Johnny Depp, takes a trip through the wild and dark days of Steadman’s time with “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” writer Hunter S. Thompson. It also features gunfights with literary giant William S. Burroughs and his fiercely heart-felt politics.
“Blue Ruin” is a classic American revenge story that recently won the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The film follows a mysterious outsider whose quiet life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. Proving himself an amateur assassin, he winds up in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family.
