An exhibition of 20 photographs by distinguished Chinese photographer Wang Dajun is on display through Sept. 26 at in the Rotunda Gallery of the Nebraska Union, 14th and R streets.

Since 1986, Wang has devoted most of his time to taking photos in the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong valleys in western China. The photos in the exhibition were captured in winter, which he said is his favorite season to shoot photos there. Covered with ice and snow, the ponds and peaks in the valleys are crystal-clear and glistering, with harmonious tone, and stunning variations of lighting and shade.

Wang’s usage of lighting not only reveals the mystery and serenity of these wonders, but also reflects his appreciation of oriental aesthetics and the similarity between natural scenery and Chinese ink painting.

Wang is vice president of the Chinese Photographers’ Association, president of Sichuan Photographers’ Association and director of the International Photography Exchange Center in Chengdu, Sichuan. He has received numerous prominent awards, most-recently the China Photographic Art Golden Award in 2012. He has published 17 photographic albums, including “Inquiring Scenery” this year.

The exhibition is free and open to the public.
