Eklund to conduct at New York’s Carnegie Hall

Peter Eklund

Peter Eklund, professor and director of choral activities, will conduct an honor choir with professional orchestra Feb. 16 at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.

Eklund will be conducting “Mass in G” by Franz Schubert.

Eklund hired soloists for the performance. All three are professional New York singers and former choral students of Eklund’s, including two from UNL — Arica Coleman and Adam Fieldson.

Eklund has been a frequent conductor at Carnegie Hall and is invited because of his long-standing relationship with the New York Sinfonia and New York arts management leaders.

The following weekend, Eklund will travel to Georgia for a return engagement of conducting the Georgia High School Men’s All-State Choir. Future engagements include conducting the South Dakota Mixed All-State Choir and also the renowned Iowa All-State Mixed Chorus.

Eklund was recently named one of the national quarterfinalists for the first-ever Grammy® National Music Teacher of the Year award out of more than 30,000 nominees.

He has taught at UNL since 1998.
