The College of Engineering’s annual E-Week activities for students are underway this week. The event is held in conjunction with National Engineers Week.
This year, the college has organized E-Week celebrations in February on its campus locations in Lincoln and Omaha. In previous years, the Lincoln celebration was held in April. Student leaders on both campuses worked together to create the weeklong celebration.
Remaining events that are open to the public and will feature students’ senior research projects, hands-on engineering activities and tours of facilities include:
Explore Innovation, which brings together the UNL College of Engineering with UNO’s College of Information Science and Technology, 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha.
E-Day Open House, April 17, Nebraska Innovation Campus. Events include a showcase of student senior design and research projects; a keynote by Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, author of “The Physics of NASCAR,” will deliver the keynote address; interactive demonstrations and activities; and a bridge building competition for high school students.
In Lincoln, E-Week opened Feb. 23 with a Tailgate Kick-Off Party at the Nebraska Union Ballroom and the first part of a two-day quiz bowl. Events Feb. 24 included a burrito eating competition and a poker tournament. On Feb. 25, E-Week included a pancake breakfast made by faculty in UNL’s Othmer and Chase halls, and the Ultimate Engineer Pageant in the Nebraska Union.
The Omaha campus started E-Week on Feb. 23 with a pancake breakfast, the “All About That Building Automated System” demonstration and a 3-D AutoCAD competition. On Feb. 25, students squared off against each other in a battle bots competition. Other activities include a burrito eating competition and Family Feud game show night, both Feb. 26.
