Sally Pemberton
Sally Pemberton, granddaughter of Murdock Pemberton who was the first art critic for The New Yorker, will speak at the Sheldon Museum of Art at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18.
In 2009 Pemberton discovered suitcases in her mother’s attic filled with her grandfather’s collection of exhibition catalogs, playbills, and correspondence. She has assembled his papers and weekly columns in a self-published book “Portrait of Murdock Pemberton: The New Yorker’s First Art Critic.”
Pemberton will speak about her grandfather’s work and friendships with artists in the Sheldon collection including Arthur Dove, Marsden Hartley, Georgia O’Keeffe, Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Calder.
