Brent Cejda, professor and chair of educational administration, has been selected to receive the Senior Scholar Award from the Council for the Study of Community Colleges.
The national award recognizes a scholar for outstanding theoretical and/or applied research publications that contribute to the national body of knowledge about community colleges; demonstrated excellence in teaching, advising and/or mentoring; integration of knowledge to teaching and service; and contributing to significant new discovery in community college research or practice, or demonstrated integration of research that impacts community college practice.
Cejda will be recognized April 4 during the 56th Annual CSCC Conference in Washington, D.C.
“It’s always nice when your peers recognize your accomplishments,” Cejda said.
His main interests are focused on student success, and he noted that his current research is on student research initiatives in two-year institutions—a growing area of student research that is beginning to gain success on a national level.
“I’m so pleased that Dr. Cejda has received this well-deserved recognition,” said Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “Brent is well known nationally for his scholarly expertise in higher education administration and especially in research on community college administration. We’re proud of his accomplishments and pleased in his leadership nationally and here in CEHS.”
Cejda, who has published dozens of articles in a variety of publications on higher education and community colleges, holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Wichita State University in music education and a doctorate in educational administration and supervision from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
He was appointed chair of the Department of Educational Administration in the College of Education and Human Sciences in 2012 and has served in that department since coming to UNL in 2005. Cejda is currently past president of CSCC.
