Arboretum to host fall festival

The Eastern Cottonwood located in the middle of UNL's Maxwell Arboretum on East Campus. The arboretum will host a fall festival on Oct. 9.

UNL will host a fall festival in Maxwell Arboretum from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9. The “Birds, Bees and Trees” event will include mini-talks, tours, displays and fall food samples.

The mini-talks on birds and insects will be offered at 4:45 p.m. and repeated at 5:45 p.m. A tree planting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

“This is an event for the whole family,” said Ted Hartung, president of the Friends of Maxwell Arboretum.

Food samples scheduled are apples, cider, nuts, popcorn and ice cream. Activities for kids and tours of the arboretum and gardens will also be offered.

The free food samples will be provided by the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Dairy Store, Kimmel Orchards and the Nebraska Nut Growers Association.

The arboretum is located on East Campus near 38th and Holdrege streets. Parking will be available west of the Dental College.
