The Friends of Maxwell Arboretum are hosting a fall festival, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 on UNL’s East Campus.

The annual, family-friendly event is in UNL’s Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum, located north of 38th and Holdrege streets. The event theme, “A Tree-mendous Celebration,” honors the many benefits of trees.

Events include children’s activities, a scavenger hunt, self-guided tour, free plant from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, a tree planting, and visits from Archie the Mammoth and Smokey Bear. Free UNL Dairy Store ice cream, Kimmel Orchard apples, and Department of Agronomy and Horticulture popcorn will be provided.

The festival will also include the opportunity to talk with tree and insect experts and plant specialists.

Celebration sponsors are the Friends of Maxwell Arboretum, UNL Garden Friends, and UNL Landscape Services. Additional booths and displays will be provided by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, UNL entomology, the Nebraska Forest Service, Maxwell Creek Restoration Project-Landscape Services, the University of Nebraska State Museum, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, UNL gardens, Lincoln Parks and Recreation, and the Nebraska Nut Growers Association.

Parking is available in the dental college parking lot, the East Campus Loop, and areas near the UNL Dairy Store.
