The Lied Center for Performing Arts has added folk singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco to its list of artists performing during its 25th anniversary season. DiFranco is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20.

After 20 years in the music business, the self-described “Little Folksinger” and Grammy winner is still technically little, although her influence on fellow musicians and activists the world over has been huge. Over the course of more than 20 albums, DiFranco has never stopped evolving, experimenting and testing the limits of what can be said and sung melding soul, funk, jazz, electronica and the spoken word. Her collaborations with cultural and music icons like Pete Seeger, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper have left their mark on folk and alternative rock music, politics and society.

“Some of the greatest folk musicians of all time have played on the Lied Center stage over the years, including Joan Baez, Bela Fleck and Peter, Paul and Mary,” said Bill Stephan, executive director of the Lied Center. “We are delighted to add Ani DiFranco, one of the foremost folk artists today to our 25th anniversary season schedule. She delivers music that is honest, provocative, experimental and often fiercely political in a unique style that has captured the imaginations of legions of followers over the past two decades.”

Tickets to DiFranco’s performance are available as part of a season ticket package. Single-event tickets will go on sale Aug. 19 to all 2014-15 performances. Tickets start at $28 and are available at half price for UNL students.
