The 25th season of Jazz in June at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln continues June 21 with a performance by the Jackie Allen Group.

Jazz in June concerts are at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in June in the sculpture garden immediately west of UNL’s Sheldon Museum of Art. The series is free, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation to help ensure its continuation.

Along with the performance, the concert series also features a marketplace with 19 vendors offering food, drinks and artisan crafts; VIP seating; basic yoga lessons; campus garden tours; and free bicycle parking by UNL’s BikeValet service.

Launched in 1991 as a way to bring a younger audience to Sheldon Museum of Art, the series has grown to draw thousands to each concert. This year, Jazz in June has become an independent campus entity, with oversight provided by UNL and the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

The Jackie Allen Group features Allen, an American jazz vocalist, composer, and educator. She has released 10 records.

Influenced by jazz, folk, and pop singers, Allen is perhaps best known for interpretations classic jazz ballads and transformation of contemporary tunes. She has toured the world, including trips through Brazil, Germany, Italy, Morocco, the Netherlands, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and China. Her 11th album, “Moon’s On The Rise,” will be released this summer and is a collection of original songs. Allen teaches music at Doane College in Crete. Her husband, bassist Hans Sturm, is an associate professor in UNL’s Glenn Korff School of Music.

The final performance in the 2016 jazz concert series is Tim Doherty’s Nine Plus One on June 28.

Concertgoers are allowed to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Pets are not allowed.
