‘Zone of Interest’ opens March 1 at the Ross

“The Zone of Interest,” a best picture Oscar nominee, follows the commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife, Hedwig, as they strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp. The film opens at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center March 1.

Nominated for five Academy Awards, “The Zone of Interest” dispassionately examines the ordinary existence of people complicit in horrific crimes and forces viewers to take a cold look at the mundanity behind an unforgivable brutality.

“Zone of Interest” is rated PG-13 and is showing through March 14.

Set in France in 1889, “The Taste of Things” follows the life of Dodin Bouffant as a chef living with his personal cook and lover, Eugénie. They share a long history of gastronomy and love, but Eugénie refuses to marry Dodin, so the food lover decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her. The film is directed by Jonathan Glazer and stars Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel.

The film is rated PG-13 and is showing through March 7.
