Users encouraged to begin moving to Microsoft Cloud Storage

Nebraska ITS

Information Technology Services has begun the process of moving all data from Box to Microsoft 365 services.

In addition to the benefit of using a storage solution that aligns with Microsoft services currently used by the university, Box is dramatically raising its prices and ending its unlimited storage offering. Moving forward, Microsoft’s suite of OneDrive for individual file storage and SharePoint for departmental files will be the university’s preferred general-purpose storage and collaboration tools.

Beginning May 17, no new data can be added to Box. To help everyone make the transition to the Microsoft suite prior to that date, ITS is encouraging users to begin volunteering to move their data using this opt-in form. Do not take any action until you have filled out the opt-in form; ITS will follow up with further instructions on how to prepare for the move.

Please note that volunteers’ Box data will be deleted four weeks following the migration. This will mean that anything that links to data in Canvas or elsewhere will need to be relinked to the file location in OneDrive.

More information on the move from Box to Microsoft cloud storage, including training resources and FAQ’s, can be found online..
