University of Nebraska–Lincoln museums and galleries will offer special programming — including an opening reception and family-friendly activities — on Feb. 5 as part of Lincoln’s First Friday Artwalk.

Participating venues include the Eisentrager•Howard Gallery, Great Plains Art Museum, International Quilt Study Center and Museum, Love Library and Sheldon Museum of Art.

All First Friday events are free and open to the public.

Great Plains Art Museum

The Great Plains Art Museum will hold an opening reception, 5 to 7 p.m., for the new exhibition, “Denizens: Wildlife on the Western Frontier.” Curated by Lee Silliman, the exhibit features vintage Western wildlife engravings from 1770 to 1902. The images were published in Harper’s Weekly, Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper, the Illustrated London News and other historical sources. For more information, click here.

International Quilt Study Center and Museum

International Quilt Study Center and Museum will hold a Valentine’s Day card making activity using paper patterns based on quilts now showing in its “Favorites From the Byron and Sara Rhodes Dillow Collection” exhibition. The collection of quilts and fabrics include historically significant and dynamic American designs and international pieces. The Dillows, both graduates of the University of Nebraska, lived in Fremont, Neb. The family donated the collection of more than 250 quilts and 175 printed cotton fragments to the museum in 2008. Treats will also be available. For more information, click here.

Love Library

A student art display is the featured First Friday exhibition in Love Library, 5 to 7 p.m. The “College Art Showcase” is organized by the Art League, a UNL student organization. Student designers will attend the event and be available to discuss their art. For more information, click here.

Sheldon Museum of Art

Sheldon Museum of Art will hold a First Friday reception, 5 to 7 p.m., for four new exhibitions. The event will include the opportunity to create a collaged Valentine’s Day card along with poetry books available to inspire the designs. For more information, click here.
