University Recycling is seeking volunteers for all home Husker football games to participate in the eighth year of Go Green for Big Red.

The program is the university’s effort, with help from the community, to increase recycling participation and spread awareness to fans. Last year, the university diverted 51 percent of its solid waste from the landfill, thanks in large part to the program.

“Go Green for Big Red is a wonderful chance to support the university, save the planet, make new friends and get free food,” said Brent Johannes, a University Recycling coordinator. “What could be better?”

Volunteers must be 18 or older. They will meet two hours before game time on the west side of the Outdoor Adventures Center, 930 N. 14th St. New volunteers will receive a T-shirt and reusable water bottle. Food is provided by a local vendor.

Volunteers will distribute green bags to tailgaters before kickoff for disposal of recyclables and educate tailgaters on the importance of recycling.

For more information and to volunteer, call 402-472-9139 or email recycling@unl.edu.
