The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 1. Employees will return to work on Jan. 2.

Regular employees are eligible for holiday and earned floating holiday pay, prorated according to FTE. This year, regular employees will use five earned floating holidays to be paid during the shutdown. Vacation, banked holiday, comp time or unpaid leave will be substituted for employees who have not earned the five floating holidays.

The university’s winter shutdown schedule is:

  • Dec. 22 — Floating holiday (or vacation, banked, holiday used, comp time used, or unpaid leave)
  • Dec. 25 — Holiday (in observance of Christmas Day)
  • Dec. 26-29 — Floating holiday (or vacation, banked, holiday used, comp time used, or unpaid leave)
  • Jan. 1 — Holiday (in observance of New Year’s Day)
  • Jan. 2 — Return to work

Employees will need to submit leave time (floating holiday, banked holiday used, vacation, or comp time used) for the shutdown period via Firefly or other third party systems.

Any university employee who does not have enough paid time (including floating holidays) accrued to cover the shutdown may work with their supervisor to discuss leave usage. Options may include working all or part of the shutdown. Human Resources staff are available to assist supervisors and units if necessary.

University employees should contact department/unit time coordinators for instructions on posting leave, correcting leave entries, or if they have questions.

Bi-weekly paid employees will have their payroll direct deposit credited on Dec. 28. Monthly paid employees will have their payroll direct deposit accounts credited on Dec. 29.
