The University of Nebraska is following the State of Nebraska and other employers and will not participate in deferral of employee Social Security taxes, which was authorized by the August 8, 2020 Presidential Memorandum.

The Social Security taxes would have been deferred September through December 2020 and subsequently collected January through April 2021. This means that employees would have had double deductions for the Social Security tax in the first four months of 2021. Employees will not have the option to opt in.
