The University Health Center has launched a Transgender Care Clinic open to University of Nebraska–Lincoln students, faculty and staff.

The clinic will be open the fourth Wednesday of each month. Dr. Jean Amoura, a practicing OB-GYN with Nebraska Medicine, will be the primary care provider for the clinic. She has 10 years of experience in transgender care and hormone treatment.

“In my experience, it’s been difficult for patients to know where to turn when they’re interested in transitioning,” Amoura said. “They need a safe place to go with a provider who has the knowledge, experience and ability to help with their medical transitions and resources.”

The clinic will offer high-quality, welcoming care for trans women, trans men, gender nonconforming and non-binary individuals. Services include:

  • Starting and managing hormone treatment for trans men and trans women

  • Referrals for gender-affirming surgery and post-operative management

“Other universities across the country offer transgender care,” said Jill Lynch-Sosa, director of student health operations. “Students should be focused on their studies – not worrying where they can go in Nebraska for gender affirming services. It’s extremely helpful to have this clinic on campus – especially for out-of-state students.”

Clinic funding is provided by fees charged for its services. No university program and facilities fees will be used to fund the clinic.

To schedule an appointment, students, faculty and staff can call 402-472-5000. Insurance coverage depends on individual insurance policies.

The University Health Center is operated by Nebraska Medicine.
