The 27th Annual Undergraduate Art Competition opens March 17 and continues through March 28 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The exhibition includes the artwork of 33 undergraduate students who have been enrolled in a studio art class in the Department of Art and Art History at UNL within the last 12 months.

A reception will be 5 to 7 p.m. March 21 in the gallery, where the awards will be announced. Awards include the Jean R. Faulkner Memorial Awards, the Department of Art and Art History Freshman and Sophomore Awards, the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Dean’s Purchase Award and Entry Fee Awards.

This year’s juror was Amanda Smith, who received her Master of Fine Arts from UNL in 2008 and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puget Sound in 2005. Smith has exhibited her work across the Midwest and is the recipient of numerous awards, honors and fellowships, including the Dan and Barbara Howard Creative Achievement Award in 2006. She is a visiting assistant professor at Doane College.

Participating artists include: Brenda Alonso, Adrian Armstrong, Brooke Choquette, Michelle Clifford, Timothy Deaver, Olivia German, Lisa Guevara, Sam Hardewig, Mitchell Hilzer, Nicole Hupp, Carl Jernberg, Josephine Karre, Elizabeth Katt, Cortland Kerwin, Anna Koenig, Natalia Kraviec, Grant Landreth, Olivia Leblanc, Samantha Lewis, James Lindsay III, Phoebe Little, Ben McCain, Grant McMullen, Rachel Persinger, Michael Rendowski, Allegra Reno, Scott Sampson, Skyler Simpson, Phalin Strong, Madison Svendgard, Dimitri Titov, Toan Vuong and Gao Yuan.

The Eisentrager-Howard Gallery is located on the first floor of Richards Hall at Stadium Drive and T streets. Gallery hours are 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and the gallery will be open during spring break March 24-28. Admission is free and open to the public.
