The life of Patti Harney will be celebrated through a tree planting ceremony at 10 a.m. April 22 outside of Andersen Hall.

Harney, 67, died May 10 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. She joined the College of Journalism and Mass Communication faculty in 2015 as a lecturer in advertising and public relations. In 2019, she was hired as an assistant professor of practice and was the college’s first Honors Faculty Fellow in partnership with the University Honors Program.

The tree, a redbud, will be planted outside the Centennial Mall (west) entrance to Andersen Hall, 200 Centennial Mall North. The event will include a gathering and reception around the tree to honor Harney and her dedicated service to the university and its students.

The event, which is on Harney’s birthday and Earth Day, is open to the campus community and public.
