The Association of Students of the University of Nebraska will hold an election for 2022-23 student government officials March 1-2.

Students can cast their vote in MyRed for president, vice presidents, senators and Committee for Fee Allocation members, who all serve as representatives of the student body.

Leading up to the election, it’s critical for students to reflect on their values and what impacts they want to see from student government on the university. Students can then familiarize themselves with their peers who are running for office.

Two student election groups, Advance and Illuminate, are running for office. Student election groups function like political parties where several candidates come together around a core set of beliefs.

Advance’s core values are accountability, resources, advocacy, diversity, equity and inclusion, and sustainability. Jake Drake, a junior political science major, is running for president; Alec Miller, a junior psychology major, is running for external vice president; and Christine Trinh, a junior economics and political science major, is running for internal vice president.

Illuminate’s core values are advocacy, accountability, accessibility and attainment. Meyri Ibrahim, a junior journalism and political science major, is running for president; Harrison Lloyd, a junior economics and international business major, is running for external vice president; and Dulce Garcia, a junior advertising and public relations and journalism major, is running for internal vice president.

Students can research the student election groups further by following their Instagram accounts (@advance_unl and @illuminate_unl), attending campaign booths in or outside the Nebraska Union or watching the ASUN Executive Debate, which took place Feb. 22.
