The fall 2020 virtual capstone exhibition, “Stay Home Spread Art,” went live online Nov. 23.

This culminating experience features documentation of capstone projects from graduating undergraduate students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History and Design.

Normally held in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery and the surrounding display spaces in Richards Hall, the biannual capstone exhibition satisfies the degree requirements for these students to share their work. Due to COVID-19 and the current social distancing restrictions, the exhibition is available this fall only as a virtual experience.

“This is our second online capstone exhibition, following our first one last May,” said Patricia Davis, director of the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery. “We’re learning and trying to figure out how to adapt due to new circumstances — how to survive and react while looking ahead to possibilities. Ultimately, I hope this moment of virtual exploration has provided us with an opportunity to build on our current exhibition models and find creative ways to meet the display needs and goals of our growing program. I continue to be impressed with my colleagues and our students as they rise to the challenges of our current reality. This online experience is proof of that teamwork and innovation, and I hope people visit the site to see the results.”

At 5 p.m. on Dec. 18, the School of Art, Art History and Design will host a virtual celebration via Zoom where Francisco Souto, director of the school, will announce the awards. Selected by School of Art, Art History and Design faculty, the awards are given to students whose works display creative and technical excellence. The reception is open to the public and can be accessed here.

Faculty leading the graphic design and studio art capstone courses this semester are Aaron Sutherlen, associate professor of graphic design, and Dana Fritz, Hixson-Lied professor of art, respectively.

Eighteen students will have their work on display from graphic design: Stephanie Diem Doan, Abegale Headlee, Daniel Hinz, Kaylie Johnson, Skylar Johnson, Hunter Krehnke, Juan E. Lopez Padilla, Logan McIntyre, Catherine Mischo, Aracxa Oviedo, Sidney Parks, Jenn Paulson, Aaron Roberts, Ashley Schnoor, Devi Seshadri, Sarah Skolaski, Matthew Standley and Joseph Wiehl.

Ten studio art students will have their work on display: Jessica Badousek, Jalaya Daye , Colt Falewitch , Riley Jhi , Alyssa May, Sean McCoy, Sa Nguyen, Patricia Pantoja, Jessica Reiter and Rachel Roberts.
