The Employee Assistant Program will offer smoking and tobacco cessation group starting June 1. Participants can attend a group, quit with a friend or schedule appointments with a counselor.

The group will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Nebraska Union. The sessions will last four weeks.

Participants that decide to start a cessation program will be provided with printed material and educational information about various aspects of nicotine addiction. Participants will learn their specific triggers for why they smoke and begin to practice other coping strategies for stress.

Areas of discussion may include various strategies for quitting, medications for withdrawal symptoms and ideas for lifestyle changes to improve chances for success.

The education offers a supportive atmosphere, accountability and learning from the personal experience of others.

To register or for more information, contact the Employee Assistance Program at 402-472-3107.
