Slam poet champion to perform Nov. 8

Slam poet champion Mwende “FreeQuency” Katwiwa will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom.

Katwiwa, a 26-year-old from Kenya, is also a writer, storyteller and social justice advocate. Katwiwa won the 2018 Women of the World Poetry Slam and finished third at the 2015 Individual World Poetry Slam. Katwiwa also spoke at the TEDWomen Conference in 2017. Katwiwa is heavily involved in social justice movements, including Black Lives Matter, reproductive justice and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

The Nov. 8 event, sponsored by UPC Nebraska and the Women’s Center, is free for students with a valid NCard and $5 for faculty, staff and the public.
