The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will name an interim associate vice chancellor for international engagement and global strategies in the coming weeks.

The move is prompted by the departure of Sonia Feigenbaum, who has been selected to serve as senior vice provost for global engagement at the University of Texas. She begins the new role Feb. 1.

“The associate vice chancellor for international engagement and global strategies is vital to Nebraska’s standing around the globe,” said Donde Plowman, executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer. “We are sorry to see Dr. Feigenbaum depart because she has brought great energy and vision of internationalization at Nebraska. We value her leadership while here at Nebraska and wish her the best at UT. ”

During her time at Nebraska, Feigenbaum enhanced the visibility of global engagement on campus and abroad; expanded services available to international students and scholars; created a global safety and security director position; launched a global virtual exchange project; developed the “global virtual classrooms” initiative; oversaw curricular expansion of Program in English as a Second Language; and supported the international research, teaching, and outreach of faculty, staff, and students.

In addition, during Feigenbaum’s tenure, Nebraska received more than $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of State, Aspen Institute, Partners for the Americas, French government, Argentina and German Fulbright commissions, and other organizations.

Following the selection of an interim associate vice chancellor, a search committee will begin work to fill the position.
