The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is accepting submissions for 12-15 page scripts, projected run time 10-15 minutes. The scripts will be considered for Nebraska’s next Carson Film, which is scheduled to begin shooting in spring 2018.

The story must be about Nebraska, be set in the Cornhusker State or could be filmed in Nebraska. Scripts with roles for college-age performers are preferred. The winning script will be bought outright for $1,000.

Script submissions, due by 11:59 p.m. April 1, should be sent to Ian Borden, chair of the Carson Film Committee, at iborden2@unl.edu. All submissions should use “Carson Film Script Competition” as the email subject heading.

Carson Films combine professional filmmakers and actors with students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. The films are shot with a significant budget. The film project launched in 2008-2010 with “Vipers in the Grass” by Jorge Zamacona. The films combine all units within the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts to create a 25- to 30-minute film that provides students with an opportunity to work with faculty and industry professionals.

Past professional participants have included Donald Petrie (“Miss Congeniality,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”); Graham Shiels (“Olympus,” “True Blood:); Dean Winters (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Oz”); and Jorge Zamacona (“Quantico,” “The Last Ship”).
