Safe and civil discourse workshops scheduled for March

.

The Executive Vice Chancellor's Office is hosting a workshop on safe and civil discourse March 6 at the Nebraska East Union and March 27 at the Nebraska Union.

"Facilitating Civil Discourse in Learning Spaces" builds on one of the office's first TipSheets and provides faculty with more in-depth suggestions and ideas about how to teach, model and facilitate civil discourse in classrooms, labs and meetings.

"We've held this workshop in a few colleges and departments already, and we're excited to open up the opportunity to all faculty on campus," said Susan Swearer, Willa Cather Professor of Educational Psychology and director of faculty development. "Balancing freedom of expression with civil discussions is an important skill that enhances the teaching and learning experience."

The workshop is the same at both locations. Faculty are encouraged to register to help with seating. Those attending on March 27 can bring a lunch.

Register for 1:30 to 3 p.m. March 6, East Campus Union, Goldernrod/Sunflower Room.

Register for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 27, Nebraska Union, Georgian Suite.
